The Palghar by-election has taken a serious turn since last night, when Shivsena Chief Uddhav Thackeray yesterday played an audio clip, allegedly with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, using the language a public leader shouldn’t, let alone the CM of a union state. Though major media houses kept mum on this issue, TV9, Lokmat, and Saamana are the only ones reporting this news.

While Palghar by-election has already grabbed the attention of much of the state, the game itself turned out to be Uddhav Thackeray’s, where he personally made sure things go his way. From BJP, CM Devendra Fadnavis is one of the many they tasked for a mere by-election. Already Palghar Loksabha Constituency has orchestrated UP CM Ajay Singh Bisht, Smriti Irani for the public. After dramatic turns of events that saw Palghar’s Late MP Mr. Chintaman Vanaga’s son Shrinivas Vanaga contesting his father’s now-vacant seat on Shivsena’s ticket, Palghar has become a point of interest not only in Maharashtra but on the nation-scale. Fortunately for Palghar people, the whole Karnataka power-grabbing drama unfolded during this election’s campaign period, which added fuel in already explosive and attacking path all the campaigns had set on.
CM Devendra Fadnavis seems to have taken the responsibility to prove his control and management skill, which in turn has affected his usual oratory advantage. Uddhav Thackeray, on the other hand, is seen to block and return every attack with his late father’s relaxed and effortless manner. Thackeray here made sure that he maintains that advantage and let their ‘partner-in-power’ fumble for retaliation, while he moves on to the next one. Representing BJP, UP CM Ajay Singh Bisht, Smriti Irani and our humble CM himself provided so many points, that resulted in Shivsena’s more aggressive and precise blows. While BJP had already accelerated over this slippery slope, Uddhav Thackeray lands one more blow releasing alleged message from CM Devendra Fadnavis.
The following transcript is translated from Lokmat’s released article on their web portal –
– We have a huge battle to fight.
– If somebody threatens our existence there, betrays us, or claiming to be our party’s friend somebody back-stabs us, how we should react (upon this)?
– One who has BJP in his blood, cannot keep calm now.
– We should do such an attack that will teach them what BJP is.
– Remember when I say this – Saam, Daam, Dand, Bhed (Sensibility, Bribery, Punishment, Division)
– We have to answer tit-for-tat if we have to win this election. I wouldn’t allow anybody’s bullying.
– If somebody tries bullying, we should remember that I could do the bigger bullying than them.
– I’m backing you with all my might and stout, blows should be returned with counter-blows. (Paraphrased)
– Remember to return every blow with required counter-blow. (Paraphrased)
CM Devendra Fadnavis has stepped on multiple toes recently. Attacking Uddhav Thackeray, alleging him snatching the candidate from right under his nose, ended up in Thackeray calling out his bluff, by questioning why Vanaga’s son wasn’t notified of their intentions. For snatching Congress’s once lost candidate Rajendra Gavit, to contest against Shrinivas Vanaga, to claim his own father’s legacy was not taken in right mood Palghar-wide. Another prominent contestant here comes from Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, which backed the BJP led NDA for prior elections, whose activists had campaigned for BJP’s candidates, yet CM couldn’t hold himself when in the moment of heat he exclaimed that ‘areas are of cats and dogs, not lion’s’, in BVA’s stronghold. This was very insulting for Bahujan Vikas Aghadi, especially after backing BJP for years, resulting in wide anger among residents. Inviting UP CM Ajay Singh Bisht to lure north-Indian audience further widened the rift between the party objectives and local residents. BJP’s desperation for win came harshly when Shivsena leaders allegedly caught BJP activists distributing cash for vote, for which official complaint is registered against 12 people. Now with this audio leak, BJP seems to be withering under Uddhav Thackeray’s attack, shows how vulnerable the party has become under Devendra Fadnavis in Maharashtra.

The language used in the alleged audio is very unfortunate, if proved to be genuine. We live in a democracy that should not allow such stand from an elected representative, let alone CM and/or a Home Minister of a state.
