In a recent boost for transportation in Thane and surrounding areas, the Maharashtra State cabinet approved the 29-km Metro project for Thane.
The metro route will be introduced by the Maha Metro for the Thane Municipal Corporation. The Chief Ministers Office released a statement saying that the project would take four years to be completed and will be built at a cost of ₹13,095 crore. Also, out of the 29-km long metro route, 2.2 km will be underground whereas the rest will remain elevated.The route will have 22 stations and is expected to have a daily ridership of 5.76 lakh. An official close to the project stated that the fares will range from ₹17 to ₹104.
The train route will be starting from New Thane metro station in the old city area, connecting Wadala-Kasarvadavali Metro at two spots, i.e. New Thane station and Dongripada. The metro will also link to the Thane-Bhiwandi- Kalyan Metro Line 5 at Majiwada junction.
Meanwhile, Guardian Minister of Thane Eknath Shinde said the cabinet has approved the proposal since it will help decongest the densely populated areas of the city.
