Five year old from Beed undergoes first surgery for Genital reconstruction at St. George Hospital, Mumbai, many more surgeries are about to follow.
Doctors said they had recreated the child’s right testicle, which had remained underdeveloped and hidden under the skin for the first five years of the child’s life.
The girl child which was born 5 years ago was named Ayman Khan but due to uncertain changes in the child, the parents consulted with a doctor and it was revealed that the child holds a male XY chromosome.
Accordingly the child’s parents met Lalit Salve, Beed who underwent same kind of surgery, helped them with the surgery procedure.
The family reported to the doctors in Mumbai and it was revealed the presence of testes, the male reproductive organ, and absence of female internal organs. Underdevelopment of genitalia had resulted in the impression that the child was female.
“Aman is the youngest to undergo genital reconstruction at our hospital. We have 13 more people from various parts of the country who have inquired about the procedure and are at various stages of investigation.” Dr. Gaikwad said.
The operation was successful and my child’s condition is stable now. After his discharge, we will need to come to the hospital for a follow-up.” said the child’s father Mohammed Sayyed Khan.
“I am happy as well as scared. I have full trust on the hospital, which is helping us financially as well. Last month, he celebrated his fifth birthday. We are hoping this new year gives him a new life as a male, which is his identity.” said Khan.
If everything goes as per plan, the child will become the youngest patient in Maharashtra to undergo genital reconstruction surgery.
Some of the organisation have reacted against the genital reconstruction surgery as this might cause to reverse actions, which can cost cost the life of the child.
