There is a good news for people who live between Airoli and Kalwa. Now the residents of Kalwa and Airoli did not need to go to Thane to take Vashi trains because, under MUTP III project, Construction of Digha Station is now started from 7th may.
Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase III aka MUTP was approved on 8 December 2011. It will cost ₹52,000 crore (US$8.0 billion). The feasibility study for the project cost ₹100 million (US$1.5 million). The project includes a fast corridor from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Panvel with a connection to the proposed new Navi Mumbai International Airport, extending the Harbour Line to Borivali, and multiple additional tracks being laid on existing routes. The project is scheduled for completion in 2031.
“This project become very useful to those commuters who regularly ups – down from Airoli/Kalwa to Navi Mumbai via Thane for works’’ says Thane MP Rajan Vichare.
MP Rajan Vichare requested Kalwa-Airoli corridor in 2014. It was approved by Railway Minister suresh Prabhu in 2016 with the budget of Rs.428 crores. End of 2016, Bhumi Pujan was done by Prime Minister Narendra modi.
Since then there was no further progress on the subject due to land acquisition issue. “Now the rehabilitation of those to be affected by this project has also been approved,” he added.
The budget of the corridor has been increased by 519 crores out of 100 crores used in Airoli corridor and to people who have been displaced due to the project.
