Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to increase the ticket rates for night services by the NMMT, to overcome the loss.
Earlier, the Corporation had cancelled the discounts of senior citizens and free service for the handicap people, now the corporation have hiked the night bus tickets by 2 Rs.
The decision of hiking the ticket rates for night service i.e. from 11 pm – 5 am was taken a year ago, but the decision has been implemented from 1st October 2018.
Due to rising fuel prices and poor condition of roads of the Sion-Panvel Highway, which has led to high maintenance of buses, the total loss of NMMT every month has risen up to 4 crores.
The total income from the running 450 buses is around 10 crores, whereas the total expense is about 13.5- 14 crores, which means a loss of around 4 crores.
The NMMT buses run through Mumbai, Kalyan- Bhiwandi, Uran, Badlapur, Thane but still NMMT is under heavy loss., even the corporation is blaming the government for hike in fuel prices.
