As many as 97,000 students applied for revaluation, this might be a history that from a university these many numbers of students have ever applied for revaluation, according to an RTI, around 35,000 students crossed the bar and passed the exams which they were earlier failed by the Mumbai University (MU).
“Students are losing their faith in the exam assessment process of the Mumbai University.” said RTI activist Vihar Durve.
Every year students apply for revaluation and every year many students cross the bar of passing marks after revaluation, many students are forced to face the supplementary exams due to late declaration of results by the University.
The university charges Rs. 500 for revaluation and Rs. 100 for a photocopy of answer books. Besides, the situation gets more worst for students when they do not receive the revaluation results on time. Durve has asked reduction in the revaluation fee and demanded that it be “refunded and compensation paid to those who are wrongly failed.”
After the exam results were out for the summer session exams, 49,596 students had doubts over the scores and they subsequently applied for revaluation out of these, 16,739 cleared their exams.
Similarly, in the second half of 2017, a total of 47,717 candidates applied for revaluation out of these, 18,254 cleared the exams after their answer books were reassessed.
During the first half of 2016, 44,441 students applied for revaluation and out of these 16,934 students crossed the bar of passing marks after revaluation.
As per the RTI, University has continuously failed in proper assessment of mark sheets. This truly raises a question on the assessment process of the Mumbai University. Chaos had been earlier surrounded the university as the university failed to declare examination results on time. University must refund and compensate students who cleared the exams after revaluation. If the university is not precise in its work, how can the quality of education be lifted with such poor assessment? Future of the students is what the university is playing with, it must adopt for alternate options for accurate assessment of the examination papers.
