Senior theatre and movie director Dilip Kolhatkar passed away in Pune on Friday morning at the age 71. For the last few days, he was fighting a major illness and was admitted to Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
He is well known for his plays like ‘Kavadi Chumbak, ‘Rajacha Khel’, ‘Moruchi Maushi’, Ughadale Swargache Daar. Dilip Kolhatkar had made a mark not only in the theatre industry, but also Marathi movies. He had earned a reputation of a disciplined director among the fraternity.
His last rites will be performed on Saturday. According to the reports, his family is currently awaiting the arrival of his son who will be travelling back to the city from USA.
His passing away has deeply saddened the industry. His silence on the stage will be deeply felt.
